Why does the Council need an Active Communities Framework?
To ensure that leisure provision is accessible to all the North Northants community including areas of health inequality, deprivation and for residents with health conditions to support the community to become more resilient. It will build partnerships with local stakeholders and increase the understanding of the impact that leisure, physical activity and sport has for the North Northamptonshire community, where they live, their health outcomes, general wellbeing and have a joined-up approach across North Northamptonshire Council and wider organisations across the area.
It will also ensure the Council has the required evidence to support the Local Plan and will be aligned to the National Planning Policy Framework.
What area does the Framework cover?
North Northamptonshire Council area – which includes the previous Council areas of Corby, Kettering, Wellingborough and East Northants
When will the Framework be completed?
The current planned completion is Summer 2024
What do each of the strategy documents entail?
Active Communities Strategy: An overarching strategy for North Northamptonshire with the ambition to provide outcomes for people, places, and partnerships to ensure residents have increased opportunities to be more active and build healthier active communities.
Leisure Facilities Strategy: A documented assessment of current use and future needs for sports /leisure facilities within the authority; focusing on the quantity and quality issues in relation to supply and demand until 2041.
Playing Pitch Strategy: A documented assessment of current use and future needs for playing pitches and associated facilities within the authority; focusing on the quantity and quality issues in relation to supply and demand until 2041.
What leisure facilities are being reviewed as part of the leisure facility strategy and playing pitch strategy?
The strategies are covering both indoor and outdoor leisure provision including (but not limited to):
